Vagina hygiene tips reloaded

As you've probably noticed, puberty comes with all kinds of changes — including the way your body looks and even the way you might think it smells. These changes are a normal part of becoming a woman, but lots of girls worry about them.

Do I Smell — and Can People Tell?

Many girls wonder if they smell "down there" — or whether people will notice they have their periods. And some girls wonder if they should use douches, wipes, or any of the other products that claim to make women feel cleaner and fresher. But do these work? And does a girl really need them?
The truth is that, under normal circumstances, no one ever smells any odors from a girl's vagina. If a girl has an infection, such as bacterial vaginosis, she may notice an unpleasant fishy odor, in which case she should definitely see a doctor. But even then, it's unlikely that people around her will notice a smell.
As far as periods go, if you change your pads or tampons frequently, shower or bathe daily, and wear clean clothes, no one can smell that either.

Douches, Wipes, and Feminine Sprays

Douches, feminine sprays, deodorants, or wipes supposedly keep a woman's vaginal area smelling fresh and clean. Douching (the name comes from the French word for "wash") refers to washing out the vagina, usually with a prepackaged mix of fluids. Unless a doctor tells you to, you should not douche. Douching can cause allergic reactions, irritation, and even infections.
Feminine sprays, deodorants, and scented tampons aren't a good idea either. They are often heavily perfumed and, like douching, can lead to allergic reactions, irritation, and infections. Your vagina has its own natural cleaning system that flushes out bacteria, so you don't need to add any chemicals to help it.
When it comes to odors caused by infections, the treatment is not a spray, but a prescription medication that treats the infection rather than covering it up. If you notice a bad smell or think you may have an infection, see a doctor or gynecologist right away.
It's easy to keep your vagina clean without making it smell like a flower shop. Washing every day with a mild soap and plenty of warm water will do the trick. Shower daily — although some girls like to substitute warm baths during their periods to reduce menstrual cramps.

What Else Can Help?

Wearing cotton underwear, especially in hot weather, can help a girl feel fresher because cotton and other natural fibers are more breathable.
During your period, change your pads or tampons often. It may be a good idea to keep a spare pair of underwear in your backpack to change into in case you happen to soak through your pad or tampon.

18 Steps Towards A Healthy Vaginal Hygiene

It’s common to hear about oral hygiene that includes brushing your teeth, tongue, and gums as well as flossing. It’s also common to hear about the importance of good vaginal hygiene, which means bathing and smelling fresh down there.

Habits that Contribute to A Healthy Vaginal Hygiene

For healthy vaginal hygiene; that’s something we don’t hear about much, if at all, other than to wash the private parts area of our body from front to back.
  • When you take a bath, don’t just gloss over the vaginal area with the soap and washcloth. Get in the ‘nooks and crannies’ by spreading the vulva lips open and sussing them up. Wash the urethra area and the clitoris area. It’s important to wash all these areas because they have secretions. Wash the outside of the vagina and about a fourth of an inch on the inside certainly won’t hurt you at all. Make sure you wash the rectum with a nice soapy washcloth as well.
  • Before you have sexual intercourse, wash the genital area. It’s best to take a quick shower before sexual intercourse so you’re squeaky clean. That way you’ll feel more confident.
  • After you have sexual intercourse, wash the genital area. That doesn’t mean to do it hours later. Try to hop into the shower or at least wash at the sink within 20 minutes.
  • After washing, dry the area. Wet areas attract bacteria that breed faster when moisture is around.
  • When menstruating, change the pad or tampon after three or four hours or when it becomes moist.
  • Tampons have been found in the research studies to cause micro-ulcerations of the vaginal tissue. This makes it easier for bacteria and sexually-transmitted diseases to lodge in the tissues. Consider using sanitary pads, not tampons.
  • Don’t use tampons at times other than when you have your period. Using them to soak up a vaginal discharge means that you’re not addressing what’s happening in your body. If the vaginal discharge is in excess, get a medical doctor to evaluate it.
  • Never wear a tampon for more than 8 hours. You must keep track mentally of when a tampon is inserted and when it comes out. Women especially in their 20s can sometimes forget they inserted a tampon and then a day or two later when a bad smell emanates from their vagina, they may remember it. If this happens, do not douche. The tampon will start degrading and disintegrating. Meanwhile, there are clumps of bacteria reproducing wildly. Douching will send the bacteria up higher and could end up causing pelvic inflammatory disease. In this case, you have two choices: 1) go to the doctor and let him/her deal with it professionally, or 2) start pulling out the pieces on your own after you washed your hands, then go to the doctor to make sure it’s all out. You maintain some dignity with choice #2.
  • Remember the women who lived before you in the 1970s and 1980s that developed Toxic Shock Syndrome. Some of them died. They used tampons that were super-absorbent and made of rayon. Remember also that Toxic Shock Syndrome never existed before feminine hygiene product companies started using super-absorbent cotton and added dioxin and bleaching agents.
  • Give up wearing tight pants and tight underwear. They cause friction that becomes an irritation to the vagina and can break down the tissues, allowing bacterial infections to start.
  • Cover public toilet seats with paper before sitting down. Every time you flush, bacteria are thrust into the air from the toilet.
  • Change your underwear daily or more often if necessary.
  • Change your underwear if it becomes wet.
  • Do not sit around for hours in a wet swimsuit.
  • If you suspect that you have a vaginal infection, make an appointment for medical help within 24 hours.
  • Eat yogurt regularly in your diet. This helps maintain the proper pH of the vagina.
  • Take probiotics supplements whenever possible.
  • Sex toys that are inserted into the vagina can be harmful. Think about it: what are they made of? Plastics, including PVC. Do you really want polyvinylchloride chemicals that close to your delicate reproductive tissues? Have you seen the rates of cancer and reproductive system disorders lately?

Women are not Sex Objects and Toys...

A 12-year-old Thai girl is held as a sex slave in a brothel catering to Western tourists. A Kurdish teenager is buried alive by her father because she talked to boys. A middle-aged mother in Iran is awaiting execution for adultery. An American porn actress is slapped and spat on by her co-stars.
Despite a World Economic Forum report claiming the gender gap is narrowing, these true stories suggest a different scenario.

Forty years after the publication of The Female Eunuch, it seems the global rights of women are in as perilous a state as ever. And though this erosion of rights manifests itself in different ways, its underlying cause is the same.

How To Satisfy A Woman In Bed

By: Rachel Andrews
Break Studios Contributing Writer
Learning how to satisfy a woman in bed can be done easily if all of her needs are met. Women are exotic creatures requiring a delicate balance of physical, emotional and mental wellness in order to achieve bliss in the bedroom.  This is not as daunting as it may seem and the following tips will help get you and your lover there.
  1. Slow down. Women take about half an hour to reach orgasm while men get there in five to seven minutes. Working up to intercourse slowly with fore-play and kissing can give her a head start. When you're in full swing and you feel you are about to climax stop your motion for a second to cool down. When you do finally orgasm the sensation will be stronger and you'll both benefit.
  2. Give her multiple opportunities. Work oral sex into your foreplay ritual. The time it takes for a woman to recover from one orgasm to another is very short.  After her first orgasm she'll be primed for another one. You'll feel like a champ for satisfying your lover two ways and she will be glowing.
  3. Ask her what she likes. This may seem simple enough but many couples don't talk about what they like best in bed. Maybe she has a stand-by position that works like a charm or a trick you never thought of that sends her over the edge. Simply inquiring about what works for her is a fool proof way to improve sexual satisfaction.
  4. Make her feel sexy. For a woman with body image issues, this can be a challenge. She needs to know that you appreciate her figure no matter how she may feel about it. Tell her in a sincere tone what you love most about her and she'll melt into your arms.
  5. Be spontaneous. Couples who have been together for a while can often benefit from an injection of raw passion. Pull your lover aside for a long, sensual kiss before picking her up and taking her to the bedroom. The excitement this produces normally overrides responses like, "I don't have time" or "I'm too tired."
  6. Keep eye contact during sex. Upping the intimacy factor is a big part of satisfying a woman in bed. Eye contact during sex is a meaningful non-verbal exchange of affection. It notifies your partner that you're mind is with her, you aren't fantasizing about anyone else and that you are enjoying the moment.
